A British couple heading off to enjoy a vacation to New York City were shocked to find out their pet cat, Candy, had – unbeknownst to them – sneaked into their hand luggage.

According to TravelPulse, Nick and Voirrey Coole were detained by airport security as they headed off from the Isle of Man to New York City to celebrate Nick’s 40th birthday.

“Airport security were all very puzzled and repeatedly asked if the bag was ours after it had been through the scanner,” Nick told the Manchester Evening News of the event, which led to the couple being escorted into an interrogation room.

“We ran out of ideas for what it could have been, and my wife even asked them, ‘it’s not a cat is it?'”

Voirrey had guessed correctly and when the bag was unzipped out popped one of the couple’s four cats, Candy!

“Our hand luggage didn’t have much in so we could bring shopping home,” Nick shared with the Manchester Evening News. “She must have snuck into the bag before we left for the airport, but we didn’t hear or feel her at all on the journey there.”

Fortunately for the couple, airport security staff realized the couple had no clue Candy was hiding out in their luggage and they were able to make their flight on time after a family friend came and picked up the sneaky stowaway!
