The travel mask mandate, which was just extended through May 3, has been overturned by a federal judge in Florida.

According to Bloomberg, U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle in Tampa directed the CDC to reverse the policy, calling it “unlawful.”

The CDC had recently extended the mandate, requiring face masks to be worn on planes, trains and buses and when in transportation hubs, due to the rising cases linked to the BA.2 omicron subvariant of the coronavirus.
According to the Associated Press, the Biden administration said the rule would not be enforced while federal agencies decide how to respond to the judge’s order.

“This is obviously a disappointing decision,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said during a press conference. “The CDC is recommending wearing a mask on public transit.”
