Attention jet-setting parents! If you’ve ever embarked on a plane journey with your little ones, you know it can be an adventure of its own. From keeping them entertained to managing their energy levels, traveling with children requires some special tactics.
Snacks and More Snacks: Let’s face it, hunger can strike at any time, and a hungry child is not a happy child. Pack an assortment of their favorite snacks to keep those hunger pangs at bay. Think easy-to-eat finger foods, like crackers, sliced fruit, or mini sandwiches. Snacks help keep their tummies satisfied and serve as a fun distraction during the flight.
Entertainment Galore: Long flights can sometimes feel like an eternity, especially for little ones. Prepare a bag filled with various entertainment options to keep them engaged throughout the journey. Bring along their favorite books, coloring books, stickers, small toys, or even a portable gaming device if they’re into that. And remember the headphones if they want to enjoy in-flight movies or music!
Let’s Play I-Spy: Turn the flight into a game of I-Spy to keep your kids entertained and engaged. Look out the window together and challenge them to spot interesting sights like clouds, birds, or unique landmarks. It’s a simple game that can provide endless entertainment and create lasting memories.
Pack a Surprise Bag: Surprise your little travelers with a special bag of goodies they’ve never seen before. It could be a small toy, a new coloring book, or a puzzle. The element of surprise will keep their excitement levels high, and they’ll have something new to enjoy during the flight.
Stretch Those Legs: Being cooped up in a plane for hours can make anyone restless, especially energetic children. Encourage them to stretch their legs by taking short walks up and down the aisle (when it’s safe to do so). This mini-exercise session will help burn off some energy and prevent cabin fever.
Embrace Technology: We live in a digital age, and technology can be a parent’s best friend during long flights. Load your tablet or smartphone with age-appropriate games, educational apps, or even their favorite movies. Just make sure to set screen time limits and have a pair of kid-friendly headphones handy to keep the peace in the cabin.
Choose Seats Strategically: When selecting seats, consider opting for the window seat for your little one. It offers a fascinating view outside and gives them something to look forward to during the flight. Plus, being by the window can help prevent accidental bumping from passing passengers.
Plan for Comfort: Comfort is key when flying with children. Dress them in cozy and breathable clothing, and remember to pack their favorite blanket or stuffed animal for extra comfort and familiarity. Also, consider bringing a travel pillow to help them get some shut-eye during the flight – and don’t forget to pack a clean change of clothes!
