There will soon be yet another reason to add Abu Dhabi to your travel bucket list!
Modon Properties just announced an exciting new project that will bring the world’s largest man-made wave pool to Abu Dhabi’s Hudayriyat Island.
“Set to open by the end of 2023, Surf Abu Dhabi will be the biggest and most advanced artificial wave facility in the world,” Modon Properties announced in a press release. “Designed in partnership with Kelly Slater Wave Co., the landmark destination will offer a high-performance surfing experience, featuring the world’s longest ride, biggest barrel, and largest man-made wave pool. Underscoring Abu Dhabi’s sporting and leisure credentials, the exclusive surfing complex seeks to attract everyone from beginners to pro-surfers. Surf Abu Dhabi will provide an ideal location to host major international events and will play a major role in developing the surfing community locally, regionally, and globally.”
Although details about just how big the wave pool will be are scarce, TimeOut reported the pool could span 51 million square meters.
According to Surfer Today, the impressive project can already be seen taking shape on Google Maps and is expected to be a game changer in the world of artificial surfing.
“The goal is to develop a facility that will proudly boast the world’s longest ride, biggest barrel, and largest human-made wave pool,” Surfer Today reports.
The wave pool is part of a development that will include high-end residential communities, a large urban park and a velodrome featuring the region’s first UCI Category 1 indoor cycling track.
