A new survey conducted by OnePoll on behalf of EconomyBookings.com has revealed we are a nation that loves a good road trip!

We love hitting the open road so much that a whopping 74 percent of those polled said they actually preferred the journey to the destination!

According to People, EconomyBookings.com survey revealed 76 percent of people would choose driving over flying if they knew the drive would be more enjoyable – and by enjoyable, about half of those polled prefer to stop at small towns along the way. Popular places to stop at include restaurants, historic locations and roadside attractions, a great way to discover hidden gems you don’t get to experience when traveling by air.

People reports that journeys of around seven and a half hours seem to be the sweet spot for road trippers and 61 percent say they would only go on a road trip if they didn’t have to drive!

When it comes to passengers in the car, more than half of people (51 percent) said their significant other/spouse is the best person to travel with.
