Places to Love star Samantha Brown has visited well over 60 countries as a travel host, yet when it comes to her favorite place to visit in October she picks somewhere a little closer to home.
With October being the month of witches, ghosts, and ghouls, it’s no surprise Brown chose Salem, Massachusetts as her top pick – thanks to its rich witchcraft history!

“When it comes to fall destinations, few can beat Salem, Massachusetts,” Brown shares on her Facebook page. “Dubbed “Witch City,” there’s more history and supernatural speculation here than just about anywhere else in the country.”

October is a great month to explore all the spooky tales Salem has to tell with the city offering “Haunted Happenings” – a unique one-of-a-kind Halloween experience offering everything from ghost tours and haunted houses to a Grand Parade and family film night on Salem Common.

Saying that I did my research before this trip is an understatement— I poured over articles, travel blogs and podcasts. This museum was def a must! Brown recommends a visit to the Salem Witch Trial Museum, which documents the infamous 1692 witchcraft trials, or taking the Hocus Pocus walking tour through Salem. Those looking for something even scarier can participate in a ghost tour with Salem Historical Tours.

If ghosts and witches aren’t your thing, Samantha Brown still recommends a trip to Salem thanks to its gorgeous harbor cruises, excellent food, and quaint B&B’s.
