AAA is predicting a record number of Americans will be hitting the highways this July 4th.
Despite higher-than-average prices at the pumps, AAA forecasts that 42 million Americans will take a road trip of 50 miles or more over the July 4 holiday.
According to the AAA, the most congested routes will be around Atlanta, New York, Seattle, Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles. The worst times to travel will be Thursday and Friday afternoons, AAA warns.
“The volume of travelers we expect to see over Independence Day is a definite sign that summer travel is kicking into high gear,” Mary Maguire, director of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Northeast, said in a statement. “Earlier this year, we started seeing the demand for travel increase and it’s not tapering off. People are ready for a break and despite things costing more, they are finding ways to still take that much-needed vacation.”
