Why sleep in an ordinary, run-of-the-mill hotel when there are some weird and wonderful resorts out there to explore. From dog houses to sewage pipes, we’re counting down five of the weirdest hotels to spend a night in.
Dog Bark Park Inn, Idaho, U.S.A

Ever fancy staying the night in a dog shaped hotel? If so you’re in luck – especially if Idaho has been on your travel bucket list! The Dog Bark Park Inn, a famous landmark in Idaho, is located in Cottonwood. This Bed & Breakfast guesthouse is in the shape of a 12 foot beagle and the pet friendly B&B sleep up to 4 guests.
Icehotel, Jukkasjärvi, Sweden

Although you may want to pack a pair of thermals, the Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi is made out of ice from the river Torne. Each year features a different design and includes 9 deluxe suites, 11 art suites, an ice bar and an ice gallery. With temperatures at a balmy minus 5 degrees Celsius, it’s the perfect getaway to channel your inner Elsa from Frozen.
Das Park Hotel, Linz, Austria

If the thought of sleeping inside a sewage pipe has you jumping for joy, you may want to head to Austria to the Das Park Hotel. Renovated sewage pipes – fully cleaned thankfully – get decked out with modern, minimalist furnishings. Located on the banks of the Danube, guests sleep on a double wide Eurofoam mattress, delightfully encased in a concrete pipe!
Ariau Amazon Towers, Manaus, Brazil

It’s the stuff childhood dreams are made of – the chance to sleep high in the trees surrounded by monkeys and exotic birds. Ariau Amazon Towers in Manaus, Brazil, offers guests an eco-friendly resort in the tree tops of the Amazon rainforest. Rooms include a private balcony and there are even 5 miles of canopy walkways to trek. The swimming pool, bar and restaurant are all nestled high in the trees!
The Hobbit Motel, Woodlyn Park, New Zealand

You don’t have to be a hobbit to vacation like one. The Hobbit Motel in New Zealand – the land that provided the backdrop to the Lord of the Rings movies – is located just two minutes from the famous Waitomo Caves. With the tagline ‘Come Sleep in the Shire’ Tolkien fans will rejoice in the variety of motel units at the resort, including 2 underground hobbit units and a Bristol Freighter plane with 2 units.
