Beginner surfers in the family will appreciate the small waves and warm waters of Honolulu, but for those more experienced, big wave riders, the North Shore of Hawaii is only a 40-minute drive away. With plenty of surf instructors available, your little grom will be hanging ten in no time flat. Family members will appreciate the kayaking and SUP offered on the beaches of Waikiki and for the non-surfer in the family there are whale watching trips, wonderful shopping and soaking up the sun on the world famous beaches.

This beautiful Pacific coast peninsula offers an abundance of waves on all three sides of its gorgeous coastline. With clear, warm waters, gorgeous sandy stretches and year round sunshine, Punta Mita is the perfect beach getaway. Some of the surf breaks are more suited to experienced surfers in the family, but beginners can enjoy smaller breaks closer to the beach, along with some fabulous ocean life such as turtles, dolphins and humpback whales. The east coast of Florida offers great surf schools, beautiful beaches and easy accessibility to Orlando’s theme parks if the family want a day away from the surf. Daytona, Melbourne and Sebastian Inlet all offer affordable hotel packages and surf gear is easy to rent in the area so you don’t have to haul your own along.

No need to cart all that surf gear down under – just rent what you need when you get there, or enroll in an all-inclusive camp, which includes instruction, lunch and gear. Located in New South Wales, Byron Bay also has great snorkeling, scuba diving and is a popular destination for humpback whale spotting between June and November. Fly into Sydney and spend a few days exploring the city before heading up the coast to Byron Bay.
