Former Spice Girl Mel B has taken on a new role – promoting an idyllic Caribbean island that is close to her heart.

Mel B, who was known as Scary Spice during her days as a Spice Girl, has been named the UK’s Tourism Ambassador for the tiny Caribbean island nation of Nevis.
The role of promoting the island is something close to Mel B’s heart. Although she was born and raised in the UK city of Leeds, her father is actually from Nevis and she visited the island as a child.

“I feel incredibly honored to be asked to be an ambassador for Nevis,” the America’s Got Talent judge said in a statement reported by the Evening Standard. “Nevis is not just a part of where I come from but it is a part of who I am, as it is my dad’s country and it is still the place where so many members of my family live.”

“For me this is a huge deal,” Mel B continued. “I’m excited to know more about this beautiful island and I’m excited to share that knowledge with the rest of the world. I want to put Nevis on the map.”
Nevis, which was also the birthplace of U.S. founding father Alexander Hamilton, reopened to vaccinated tourists just two months ago. Currently, only fully vaccinated tourists are allowed to visit Nevis and they must take a PCR test 72 hours prior to arrival.
Located in the northern end of the Lesser Antilles, Nevis is one of the most unspoiled islands in the Caribbean, known for its eco-tourism, beautiful sandy beaches, and romance. Since there are no residency requirements to get married on Nevis, the small island is a popular spot for lovebirds to tie the knot in paradise!
