Little Thomas the Tank Engine fans will soon be able to board a “life-sized” passenger train courtesy of a brand new Mattel theme park slated to open in Glendale, Arizona.
According to USA Today, a Mattel-branded theme park with Hot Wheels and Thomas the Tank Engine attractions is planned alongside Crystal Lagoons Island Resort, a massive water park.
“It’s just going to be phenomenal,” City Manager Kevin Phelps said in a statement reported by USA Today. “There are going to be theaters, there’s going to be racetracks, there’s going to be rollercoasters.”
USA Today reports the project is slated to open in late 2022, just in time for visitors arriving for Super Bowl LVII, which is taking place at State Farm Stadium in 2023.
In addition to the Mattel theme park, the Crystal Lagoons Island Resort will consist of an 11-acre resort-style water park complete with paddleboards, boogie boards, and scuba diving gear. Diners will be able to feast inside a restaurant 130 feet off the ground, before opting to ride in a massive balloon that will take visitors nearly 400 feet into the air.
Tourists can stay within easy access of the planned attraction with Crystal Lagoons building two hotels offering 650 hotel rooms.
