Just days after its much-anticipated opening, Disney World’s newest transportation system has closed with no news yet as to when it will reopen.
Passengers onboard the Skyliner – which links together Hollywood Studios and Epcot to four of Disney’s hotels – were stranded in the air on Saturday evening for hours after one of the cable cars malfunctioned.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, one Disney guest described the incident as a “nightmare” as he and his disabled mother were suspended high in the air for hours waiting to be safely evacuated.
“We have a team diligently looking into the cause of Saturday’s malfunction on the Epcot line of the Disney Skyliner,” Disney told USA Today in a statement. “We have been in contact with the guests, many of whom were on the Skyliner for more than three hours until we were able to restart the system. We express our sincere apologies for the inconvenience and continue to work with each guest individually.”
