Sunday proved to be a bumper day for travel as people returned home after spending the Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends, with the number of travelers hitting the airport setting a pandemic record.
According to the Associated Press, the TSA screened 2,451,300 people on Sunday – more than double the number of travelers that passed through TSA checkpoints last year.
Although travel is rebounding, USA Today reports the number of people traveling on Sunday fell short of 2019’s numbers by nearly half a million. The Sunday after Thanksgiving in 2019 set a TSA all-time record with 2,882,915 people screened.
