Actor Marlon Wayans was removed from a flight and cited for “disturbing the peace” after a carry-on baggage dispute.
According to the Independent, the altercation happened at Denver Airport last week after Wayans was told he had too many bags to carry on and would instead have to check them onto his United Airlines flight. Despite consolidating the bags, Wayans said he was still told he would have to check his luggage.
The actor and comedian took to social media to detail the affair, telling fans, “Maaaaaan the bullsh*t I’m experiencing at @united is unprecedented BULLSHIT. People taking advantage of their “power”. Bro claimed i had too many bags so i complied and consolidated them he was like “oh now you have to check that bag”. Bye. I’m in seat 2 A come holla. Most agents are always love but every now and then you come across BAD PEOPLE. This was one of them. @united this type of employee should never work at your company.”
According to the Associated Press, Wayans – who said his treatment constituted harassment, took his ticket and began walking onto the plane but was not allowed to board and instead cited for “disturbing the peace.”
Wayans said he booked a flight instead on American Airlines to Kansas City, saying he would rather fly coach on another airline than fly first-class on United. He apologized to his fans in Kansas City for missing a performance, the Associated Press reported.
United Airlines issued a brief statement: “In Denver on Friday, a customer who had been told he would have to gate-check his bag instead pushed past a United employee at the jet bridge and attempted to board the aircraft. The customer did not fly on United to his destination.”
Wayans’ citation states he must appear in a Denver court on July 11.
