Zara Rutherford has become the youngest woman to fly solo around the world – and she’s just 19!
The courageous teen set off on August 18, 2021, in a Shark ultralight aircraft and ended her global trip in Belgium on January 20, 2022.
Rutherford’s adventure spanned over 32,300 miles across 41 countries, including South Korea, Singapore, Russia, and Greece.
According to CNN, Rutherford had initially hoped the journey would be completed by Christmas, however bad weather and visa issues pushed back her schedule.
Along the way, Rutherford broke two Guinness World Records: the youngest woman to fly solo around the world; and the first Belgian to fly around the world alone.
CNN reports Rutherford hopes her journey inspires other young women to consider a career in aviation.
“If you don’t try and see how high you can fly, then you’ll never know,” Rutherford said in an inspirational statement reported by CNN.
