The search continues for a teen boy who fell overboard from Royal Caribbean’s
Wonder of the Seas ship last week.
According to the
Independent, 19-year-old Sigmund Ropich went overboard on the 29th of August off the coast of Cuba. The
Wonder of the Seas, which is the largest ship in the world, was on a seven-day sail when the incident occurred.
Insider reports the teen was vacationing with friends.
In an email to
Insider, Ropich’s sister, Savannah Ropich, revealed her family worries authorities will soon stop searching for her brother.
“The ship’s crew immediately launched a search and rescue operation and is working closely with local authorities,” Royal Caribbean told
Insider in a statement.
A rep for Royal Caribbean said the cruise line had been working with the US Coast Guard. However, the agency told
Insider it was not involved in the case. It said the Cuban Border Guard is responsible for coordinating the operation because the incident happened in Cuban territorial seas.
“We were told by the Cuban officials that they are done searching in the ocean. They are continuing only on the coast and land. I have a strong feeling they’re going to end this search,” Ropich’s sister told the news outlet.
