My Panamá Journey: Words by Sue’s Adventures

Panamá captivates with its blend of engineering marvels, historical richness, and natural beauty. As I traversed its landscapes, the warmth of both the climate and the people was palpable. The country’s tropical essence, with its year-round humidity and distinct dry and wet seasons, offers a canvas for endless exploration.

The Panamá Canal, an engineering feat that has stood the test of time since 1914, is not merely a conduit between oceans but a symbol of human ingenuity. It’s a must-see for every traveler. In Panamá City, the charm of Casco Antiguo envelops you with its cobblestone streets and colonial architecture, alongside the modern vibrancy of its restaurants and cultural spots. The Church of San Jose and its storied Gold Altar offer a window into the past, while the Canal and Mola museums provide a narrative of Panamá’s multifaceted history and indigenous artistry.

The historic city of Colón reveals its stories through the imposing Fort San Lorenzo, perched above the Chagres River. This UNESCO site, along with the encompassing rainforest, stands as a guardian of history and nature.

My journey through the Chagres National Park to the Emberá village was an immersion in tranquility and tradition. The serene canoe ride, the welcoming dance and music, and the vibrant craftsmanship of the Emberá people were profoundly enriching.

The Kuna people of the San Blas Islands also left a lasting impression with their mola textiles, a colorful testament to their rich heritage.

Panamá is a treasure trove for adventurers. Whether it’s snorkeling in the clear waters of Bocas del Toro, hiking the trails of Volcan Baru, enjoying the coastal panoramas from the Amador Causeway, or diving into the pristine ecosystems of Coiba Marine Park, there is a harmony between nature and culture here that is tangible.
