When it comes to booking overseas flights new data shows Americans prefer to vacation closer to home.

Although taking a trip to Australia, Europe and Asia may be on many U.S. travelers’ bucket lists, when it actually comes time to take that much-needed vacation destinations with a shorter flight time come out tops – with Puerto Rico being the most popular!

Flight comparison site, Jetcost, analyzed data for the number of searches on their site from U.S. airports to destinations abroad between January 1st, 2019 through May 19th, 2019 and found that Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico were hugely popular destinations for American tourists.

One reason could be that the average U.S. worker only gets two weeks of vacation per year – and most employees have a hard job taking two weeks off consecutively, so it makes sense that destinations with a shorter flight time win out over flights to destinations that can take 8, 12, or sometimes 20 hours to get to.

According to Jetcost’s data, here are the top ten overseas airport destinations:

San Juan Luis Munoz Airport, Puerto Rico–248,220
Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic–222,136
Havana, Cuba–194,887
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic–149,887
Guadalajara, Mexico–125,350
Mexico City, Mexico–119,764
San Salvador, El Salvador–65,400
Holguin, Cuba–63,453
Cancun, Mexico–52,202
Santa Clara, Cuba–50,434
