Former number one world tennis champ Novak Djokovic has revealed he won’t be able to travel to New York to compete in this year’s US Open due to vaccine requirements.
All travelers entering the United States must show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 before boarding their flights. Djokovic has declined to get a COVID-19 vaccine.
The tennis star took to social media to share the news, telling fans, “See you soon tennis world.”
“Sadly, I will not be able to travel to NY this time for US Open,” Djokovic shared on Twitter. “Thank you #NoleFam for your messages of love and support. Good luck to my fellow players! I’ll keep in good shape and positive spirit and wait for an opportunity to compete again.”
This isn’t the first time the Serbian tennis player has faced competition woes over his vaccination status. According to Sky Sports, Djokovic was unable to defend his Australian Open title this year after being deported from the country in January because he wasn’t vaccinated.
