Japan Set to Reopen to Tourists After Two Years

After being closed for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic, Japan is getting ready to welcome back tourists from 98 countries – including the United States!

According to the Washington Post, beginning June 10th, Japan will allow a wide range of leisure tourists on guided package tours that include transportation and accommodation from countries with low COVID-19 infection rates.

Visitors from the low-risk countries who have received three vaccine doses will not need to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival or quarantine after arrival. They will, however, need to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of departure to Japan.

“Step by step we will aim to accept [tourists] as we did in normal times, taking into consideration the status of infections,” Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said in a statement reported by the Washington Post.

According to USA Today, it will take some time before foreign visitors can come to Japan for individual tourism.
