Brace yourself for a bumper Memorial Day Weekend travel situation.
According to the AAA, 2.4 million Floridians are expected to journey 50 miles or more over the holiday weekend. That number is higher than before the pandemic in 2019.
Florida travel numbers are forecast to set record highs in both air and automobile travel, with 2.1 million Floridians expected to drive and 208,000 hopping on a plane.
“Memorial Day weekend is the kickoff to what promises to be a very busy summer travel season,” said Debbie Haas, Vice President of Travel for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Despite various inflationary pressures, consumer spending is strong, and Americans still want to travel. Because of that, we’ve seen demand come roaring back, beyond pre-pandemic levels in Florida.”
AAA predicts Friday, May 26, will be the busiest day on the roads. The best time to travel by auto will be during the holiday weekend in the morning or after 6 p.m. The lightest travel days will be Saturday and Sunday.
