The New York Times is back with its “52 Places to Go” list – and 2023’s edition asks the question of why we travel. Is it for food, culture, adventure, or natural beauty?

Each selection in the New York Times’ “52 Places to Go” list offers some or all of these elements.
The New York Times picked London as its number one ‘Place to Go’ in 2023, revealing of the British capital, “the city continues to juxtapose old traditions and new possibilities, offering something for everyone who loves culture, history, art, and nightlife.”

Morioka, Japan, came in second place, with the New York Times honoring the city’s walkability, architecture, fantastic coffee, and fabulous foodie scene.

Finally, the New York Times picked Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park for its third place. “The tribal park, which features a 17-mile driving loop, is open to visitors under the stewardship of the Navajo Nation,” the New York Times writes. “Its relatively basic infrastructure – in contrast to sites governed by the National Park Service – and its out-of-the-way location on the Arizona-Utah state line help create a more serene experience compared with other awe-inspiring U.S. destinations.”

According to the New York Times, these are the top ten places to visit in 2023:

1. London, UK
2. Morioka, Japan
3. Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park
4. Kilmartin Glen, Scotland
5. Auckland, New Zealand
6. Palm Springs, California
7. Kangaroo Island, Australia
8. Vjosa River, Albania
9. Accra, Ghana
10 Tromsø, Norway
