Twins That Look Like Complete Opposites

Parents Donna and Vince Aylmer were excited and nervous for Donna’s ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy of their fourth child. They were told news they were not prepared for…that they would be having twins! On the day of delivery, both parents were shocked to see their twins with completely different skin tones. If you think they look dissimilar now, you won’t believe how they look as college freshmen…

Their Parents

Twins Maria and Lucy Aylmer were born on January 16, 1997, in Gloucester, England. Though their parents were married at the time of their birth, they eventually divorced and co-parented the twins as best they could. Donna Aylmer now goes by Donna Douglas once again. Both parents came from different ethnic backgrounds, which contributed to the skin color of their twins…

Different Ethnic Backgrounds Of Their Parents

Donna is half Jamaican while Vince is Caucasian. Instead of giving birth to mixed skin tone babies, they welcomed one white and one black child into the world. Donna was a 49-year-old warehouse worker at the time and Vince was a 55-year-old scaffolder. So, were the twins identical or not?

Non-Identical Twins

Lucy and Maria were actually born as non-identical twins, from separate eggs, so they didn’t inherit all of the same exact genes. The mother came from a mixed Jamaican heritage, so she possessed both Afro-Caribbean and white skin. It was a completely blind draw on what skin color the twins would end up with.

A Surprised Mother

When Lucy (left) was a little older, she spoke of her mother to an interviewer for the Daily Mail. “It was such a shock for her because things like skin color don’t show up on scans before birth. So she had no idea that we were so different. When the midwife handed us both to her she was just speechless.”

Dressing The Same

Like most mothers of twin babies, Donna chose to dress the girls in the exact same outfits. This confused most strangers, because it was quite obvious the girls weren’t related at all, or so they presumed. Even at such a young age, they looked nothing alike and didn’t even appear to be from the same family, let alone twins. So how did their siblings look?

Their Siblings

Older brothers George, 25, and Jordan, 23, have a light-brown skin tone. Chynna, who is 24 years old, is the twins’ older sister, and she has the same complexion as the boys. In contrast, Lucy’s skin is pale white and very fair. Maria’s is very dark.

Their Grandmother

“Our brothers and sisters have skin which is in between Maria and I. We are at opposite ends of the spectrum and they are all somewhere in between. But my grandmother has a very fair English rose complexion, just like mine,” said Lucy to a Daily Mail interviewer, when she was almost 18 years old. So what else is different besides skin?

Eyes And Hair

Lucy’s eyes are a blue-green hue, and Maria’s are dark brown, matching her hair. Lucy looks like she could pass off as a true Irish girl, with beautiful natural red hair. Maria’s hair is a wild web of thick black curls, filled with sass. Maria hated her hair though…

What They Each Don’t Like

Maria, when she was older, told Inside Edition, “I used to cry about it. I hated my curly hair.” What did Lucy hate? Her pale skin. Peers at the twins’ middle school would bully Lucy about how fair her complexion was. “They thought I was adopted and called me a ghost,” she said, wiping away tears while shooting the Inside Edition video interview.

Can’t Fool Anyone!

“We were in the same class, but no one had a problem telling us apart. Twins are known for swapping identities, but there was no way Maria and I could ever do anything like that,” Lucy said. Unfortunately, the twins had to miss out on one of the funniest perks of being a twin: tricking teachers! What other “twin things” did they miss out on?

They Share The Same Pain

When asked if the girls had any psychic bond with one another, they stated that they did not, but that they sometimes experience the same physical pains in the same places at the same time. Creepy, right?

Lucy Straightens Her Hair

Lucy admitted that as she got older she started to straighten her hair, because it was so naturally curly. She wears it pin straight now! It was never ringlet curly like Maria’s, however.

Time To Dress Differently

By the time the girls turned 7 years old, they told their mother to stop dressing them in identical outfits. They put their feet down. “We don’t look alike. So why should we have to wear the exact same thing?” Lucy said. She admitted she didn’t feel like a twin. So how do the girls look now that they dress differently and are getting ready to enter college? Well…

How The Young Ladies Look Today!

Introducing the 18-year-old twins, Lucy and Maria! Here they are embracing the style they each love and the hairstyles and makeup that enhances each of their beautiful physical features. You would never guess they were even sisters, right? They took a lot of stunning photos for their recent interviews…

Total Clashing Styles

It’s clear from these photos that the twins have totally diverse senses of style. Lucy likes more dark, edgy looks and loves showing off her piercings. Maria prefers clean-cut professional clothing for a more upscale, sophisticated look. She also gets a little boho and street-style from time to time. What about their personalities?

Total Clashing Personalities

Maria told Inside Edition that she is far more outgoing than her sister, but that Lucy has broken out of her shell more since they have gotten older. Still, Lucy is pretty shy. “I love meeting people,” Maria said, adding, “I’m not scared to approach people.” On the other hand, Lucy said, “I’m terrified of going up to random strangers.” Then, Lucy admitted they used to not be close…

A Distant Bond As Youngsters

I think if we’d looked similar or even identical, then the bond between us would have been stronger when we were younger,” Lucy confessed, adding, “But Maria and I had such different personalities, too. She was the outgoing twin whilst I was the shy one.” So is this the effect of not looking alike?

Not Having That Identical Bond

The girls were so different in terms of their physical appearance, fashion sense, and personalities, that they both feel they would have had more in common if they were identical twins. Maybe the gap between them would have been smaller if they looked alike. So, are they close now?

Getting Older And Growing Closer

“Now we have grown older, even though we still look so different, the bond between us is much stronger.” They call themselves best friends nowadays, and they embrace how different they are, and how much positive attention and feedback their story has received. Just how does the rest of the world view them?

What They Look Like To Everyone Else

“Most twins look like two peas in a pod – but we couldn’t look more different if we tried,” Lucy said, adding, “We don’t look like we have the same parents, let alone having been born at the same time.” She explains that this is what most people think. Most people don’t believe the twins when they say they are related. Even some of their friends!

Even Their Friends Don’t Believe Them

Maria told Inside Edition the story of how one of her friends saw her interview and later asked her, “You’re really a twin? That’s really your sister?” Her friend “didn’t believe” her when she first told her that! She had to wait until she saw it on television. As for their college plans…

Starting College

Lucy attends Gloucester College as an art student and Maria is pursuing law at Cheltenham College. “Maria loves telling people at college that she has a white twin – and I’m very proud of having a black twin,” said Lucy, stating that now, the young women are both happy and proud to tell their story.

Birth Certificates

“No one ever believes we’re twins,” Lucy stated in her interview. “Even when we dress alike, we still don’t look like sisters, let alone twins. Friends have even made us produce our birth certificates to prove it,” she said. Imagine that! These friends sure don’t have a lot of trust…

Off To A Successful Start

Though they contrast each other immensely, these gorgeous, bright women bring a colorful sense of lively friendship with them wherever they go. They are both so tall and thin, they could easily be mistaken for models! It’s nice to know that no matter where their future brings them, they will always have each other’s backs.

They Share The Same Genes

These are Marcia and Millie Biggs, two twin sisters getting ready for secondary school. They love dance and gymnastics, and have interests in mathematics and science. They hardly ever fight, despite their closeness…

Two Sets Of Biracial Twins!

These proud twins welcome another set of twin siblings! Their mother wanted them to pose with the newborn babies of opposite color to emphasize their skin differences. Then we have grown up biracial twins…

All Grown Up

These twin brothers are in middle school and will soon start high school. Though their hair is similar in texture, their skin color could not be more different.

From Different Ethnicities

The mother of these twin babies has extremely light skin, while the father is of African American and Spanish descent. The babies have different skin colors, though it isn’t as obvious as some of the other twins on our list!

Their Field Of Dreams

Similar to our last set of twins, these babies are closer in skin color. The father is of African American descent and the mother is Caucasian. The mother admitted to dressing the twins in matching outfits and headbands, and wants to continue that until they get older.

Teasing Twins

This brother and sister love to tease each other! They are quite rambunctious, and their parents are always chasing after them. They have curly hair, but different skin colors.

All Dressed Up

All dressed up for a photo shoot, these beautiful girls are biracial twins. They look absolutely nothing alike! They are both wearing matching white tulle dresses with roses.

Stylish Model Biracial Twins

Both trying to jump start their modeling careers, these twin brothers work out frequently and always try to dress nicely wherever they go. They have short buzzed haircuts, but don’t have much in common other than that!

What A Mix!

With one twin looking like Ed Sheeran and one looking like a god from Arabic descent, these brothers shocked everyone in their college when they started their freshman year. There were many professors who refused to believe that they were related.

Their Friends Didn’t Believe Them

At school, Breana Cincotta (right) struggled to make friends and experienced a lot of bullying. Her classmates would ask if she was adopted, because her twin sister Brittney looks African American.

Surprised?

These twins are both little girls, whose names are Jasmine and Amelia. One has striking, beautiful blue eyes, while the other has dark, chocolate eyes. This was their first day of Sunday School!

The Same Blank Face

How hilarious is this photograph, which wasn’t staged, of two baby girl twins watching television! We wonder what they could possibly be watching in order to be so entranced…

Twins With Red Flava

Both of these girls are attending a Christmas party with their parents. Their father has dark skin while their mother has pale, fair skin. One baby is blue-eyed while the other is brown-eyed. Will Santa be able to tell them apart?

Polka Dot Besties

These twins are in elementary school, and pose for a photo shoot that their mother had set up for them. They both love to dance, go to the movies, and take art classes together.

Blue Eyes Vs. Brown Eyes

What curly, curly locks! Both of these biracial twins have really curly ringlets. However, one baby has pale white skin and bright blue eyes, while the other has dark chocolate eyes and dark skin.

Their Mothers Are Friends!

These two mothers are very close friends, and they both have sets of biracial twins! It’s really evident in this photograph that the boys look alike, and the girls look alike, but that they have different skin colors.

Another Red-Haired Twin!

Just like Lucy in our first story, one of these twin girls has fair skin and red hair! The mother comes from a part Irish heritage, while the father is African American and Dominican.

Chris And Sam Are Adults Now

Twins Chris and Sam Jackson come from a mixed heritage because one of their parents is Caucasian and the other is from the Middle East. They have tan skin and an Arabic look to them. Very attractive!

Happy Bibbed Babies

The baby on the left has the same exact hair pattern as her father! Though she is still growing her hair, she mimics the same widow’s peak look. The twin on the right is looking pretty upset…probably aching for some more food!

Stripes Vs. Solids

Kalani and Jarani Dean look nothing alike! They are one of the most unique biracial twins on our list. However, they are both extremely giggly and love to play wrestling. Boys will be boys!
