A cheaper subscription plan is heading to Disney+!

The streaming service announced plans to roll out a cheaper, ad-supported subscription plan to customers leery of forking over $7.99 per month ($79.99 annual), which is the current subscription cost Disney+ charges.
“Expanding access to Disney+ to a broader audience at a lower price point is a win for everyone – consumers, advertisers, and our storytellers,” said Kareem Daniel, Chairman of Disney media and entertainment distribution in a statement.

“More consumers will be able to access our amazing content,” Daniel continued. “Advertisers will be able to reach a wider audience, and our storytellers will be able to share their incredible work with more fans and families.”

Disney plans to roll out the new ad-based service by late 2022 in the U.S. and early 2023 for international subscribers.

“Since its launch, advertisers have been clamouring for the opportunity to be part of Disney+ and not just because there’s a growing demand for more streaming inventory,” said Rita Ferro, President, Advertising, Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution in a statement reported by BroadbandTVNews. “Disney+ with advertising will offer marketers the most premium environment in streaming with our most beloved brands: Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel, and National Geographic. I can’t wait to share more with advertisers at the Upfront.”
