Carnival and Royal Caribbean have announced they will ease their COVID-testing requirement for vaccinated guests embarking on shorter cruises.
According to the Washington Post, Carnival Cruise Line announced that fully vaccinated passengers will no longer need to take a COVID test before boarding if the trip is five nights or less. Unvaccinated passengers must still present proof of a negative test taken within three days of boarding; however, testing on the day of departure at the port terminal will no longer be required.
Royal Caribbean also announced a similar refinement to its COVID testing protocols, set to go into effect on August 8th.
Royal Caribbean – which includes Royal Caribbean International, Silversea, and Celebrity Cruises – announced that fully vaccinated passengers will only need to take a test for cruises lasting six nights or longer. Unvaccinated guests will still need to test before all sailings.
“We will continue to work closely with our partners around the world to develop updated protocols that provide for the continued safety of our guests and the communities we visit, better align with the travel and hospitality sector, and meet destination regulations,” Royal Caribbean said in a statement reported by the Washington Post. “This means we’re transitioning to the point where everyone will be able to vacation with us.”
