A travel expert has revealed to Bloomberg why you should never eat aboard a plane.
Melissa Biggs Bradley knows a thing or two about air travel. She is the founder of luxury travel firm Indagare and logs around 200,000 flight miles a year. So what is her secret to avoiding jet lag? It’s the same secret cabin crew know and implement – avoid eating!
That moment on the flight when two flight attendants asked me to "solve the mystery" and taste the main dish and let them know if it was Shepherd's Pie or Pasta. All they knew is it wasn't the Chicken. In my imagination they discussed my history as a food writer and thus sought me out specifically in the 3rd row of coach. Once I identified it as "pasta" they went back to the prior rows to let them know. #travel #coachlife #america #wanderlust #planefood #foodie
Biggs Bradley told Bloomberg, “I eat nothing on flights. I’ve talked to a lot of stewardesses about it, and it’s a stewardess secret…Basically, at super high altitude, your digestive system shuts down completely,” she revealed. “Someone said to me it’s like being under anesthesia. So when you get off the plane, everything restarts and [your digestive system] has so much more work to do and so it makes you more tired.”
Melissa told Bloomberg she eats a couple of hours before boarding the flight and then it’s “nothing but lots and lots of water.”
We are set with our food for our journey! Lots of healthy snacks to nibble on and yummy fried rice to fill our bellies. I packed carrots, celery, snow peas, blueberries, raspberries, hommus, tzatiki, fried rice, detox and camomile tea and hummus chips. #lorakorztakeoneurope #livingtheloratetlife #planefood #failtoplanplantofail

For some of us going without food for long haul flights is just out of the question and if that’s the case experts suggest packing protein rich snacks like nuts, string cheese, or even fruit smoothie pouches to stave off hunger.
