Video shows flames and black smoke spewing from a Carnival Cruise Line ship Thursday morning.
The Carnival Freedom departed from Port Canaveral in Florida on May 23. It was docking at Grand Turk Island, the capital island of the Turks and Caicos, Thursday morning when the fire erupted. Passengers quickly began sharing photos and videos on social media.
Carnival Freedom’s emergency response team quickly activated and extinguished a fire inside the ships funnel while the ship was in Grand Turk, the company wrote in response to a Twitter user. All guests and crew are safe, and the ships guests were cleared by local authorities to go ashore. We continue to assess the situation.
