Looking to Snag a First Class Upgrade? Your Outfit Matters

Flying in cramped economy class calls for comfortable outfits – especially on long-haul flights. But if you’re hoping to snag that ever elusive upgrade to first class, flight attendants reveal you may actually want to ditch the sweat pants and sneakers in favor of something a little more business-casual.
Speaking to Who What Wear, several flight attendants shared the type of outfits that could get you an upgrade – and fortunately you don’t have to break the bank and invest in top dollar designer duds to look the part.

“Smart but understated,” one flight attendant told Who What Wear. “You should look like you travel often … It helps; someone who is potentially due to get an upgrade can be knocked back if they aren’t dressed suitably.”
“When we fly, we have a strict dress code to follow,” another flight attendant added. “No jeans or trainers — so I always go for tight black trousers and a blazer or a dress. For men, chinos or trousers and a shirt are worn.”

While you want to be comfortable, you also want to appear smart. Unfortunately, that doesn’t include flip flops, sneakers, or looking as though you’ve just come from the gym.
