A Dog Surfing Contest is Coming to Florida’s East Coast

If all goes according to plan, some surfing pooches will soon hit the waves of Flagler Beach to participate in a dog surfing competition.
According to Click Orlando, the Flagler Beach commission approved a temporary waiver allowing dogs on the beach so that the Hang 8 Surfing event could occur in May.
Commission chair Eric Cooley, who also happens to be a member of Hang 8, brought a surfing dog named Wednesday to the commission meeting. Wearing a doggy-sized life jacket, Wednesday has been hitting the waves for years.
“I wanted to bring her by so everybody could meet her because Wednesday is the actual real founder of Hang 8. The humans have kinda just gone along with her idea,” Cooley said.
According to Click Orlando, Cooley even brought along Wednesday’s surfboard to showcase his furry friend’s surfing talent, and the commission ultimately provided the event a temporary waiver to allow dogs on the beach.
