Lonely Planet has released their “Best Places to Visit in the US for 2017,” with some unexpected surprises.

The number one spot according to the travel guide company is Asheville, North Carolina.

Lonely Planet states “Asheville welcomes everyone with open arms and has been quietly emerging as a haven for creative spirits for decades…the astonishing number of craft beers and spirits produced locally pair nicely with the food served up by the city’s numerous James Beard nominated chefs.”

They also note the French Broad River and Blue Ridge Mountains, which offer a respite for those looking to get back to nature.

Other U.S. destinations on the list include Western Washington, the Nebraska city of Lincoln, California’s Low Desert, Montana’s Flathead Valley, Atlanta, The Adirondacks, Texas Hill Country’s wine region, Denver and Florida’s Emerald Coast.
